House Prinsloo
Ferndale, Johannesburg, Gauteng

Ivor PRINSLOO: Architect
Wilhelm AH LOCHNER: Architect Renovations

Date:c1965
Type:Homestead
Status:Extant

the original house was designed and built circa 1965 by architect Ivor Prinsloo for himself and his partner at the time, ceramicist Dina Prinsloo.

Later, architect Wilhelm Lochner lived in the original Prinsloo house, featured here, and during his occupation he renovated and adapted it. Around the 1980s, Lochner also designed and built a second dwelling on the same property for Dina Prinsloo, and that second house is already listed on Artefacts.

The Habitat magazine images from 1989, issue no. 91, pages 86 to 87, are useful because they document the Prinsloo architecture, and they also capture Lochner's own interiors and furniture selections in situ, as photographed at the time.
