Originally built in 1884, designed by CE TENNANT, additions were done in 1888-1889 by Anthony M DE WITT.

Further additions done in 1899 by GREAVES (Pryce-Lewis list 5 025).

Now houses the Cape Town Central Library, which moved here from the Waalburg Building in Wale St.
