(SALQB Dec 1967:57; SAAE&S Jnl Aug 1907:196) Parke's Hotel, demolished in 1892, had stood on this site previously. The first Grand Hotel in turn was replaced by the second Grand Hotel. The hotel was a street block wide along Strand St, with its main entrance on cnr. of Adderley St and its bar entrance on cnr. of St George's Street.
