Was declared a National Monument, it is now a Provincial Heritage Site. ---------------- The Sisters of Nazareth are a Roman Catholic apostolic congregation of pontifical right, based in London, England. Members live in "Nazareth Houses" around the world. In 1881, the Sisters arrived in South Africa at the invitation of the Bishop of Cape Town. Their mission was to care for indigent elderly and orphaned children. In 1888 Nazareth House in Kimberley was founded, the Sisters arriving in Kimberley on 12 October and Naz House opening two weeks later on 26 October. The construction on the Nazareth House chapel began in 1894 with a message from Bishop Gaughren placed in a bottle under the cornerstone. On 5 October 1895 the Chapel opened for services.
