| | RIDGWAY, RowlandBorn: 1834 Died: 1879 09 15Architect |
Born in Northwich, Cheshire in England. Ridgway came to Natal in 1850 as a surveyor-architect with the British immigration schemes of 1849 and 1850. In 1864 he married Elizabeth, a daughter of RS UPTON. So far the only building yet ascribed to him is the Methodist Church in West Street which job he won in a competition in 1877.
Ridgway died aged 44 at his home in Prince Alfred Street in Durban. His youngest child was then only five months old. He had nine children, of whom Rowland Alfred RIDGWAY and James Henry RIDGWAY were two. His father-in-law RS UPTON was an executor of his intestate estate.
