NIA Eldest son of WE ROBARTS, Robarts was born in Durban and educated at the Durban High School after which he was articled to his father in Durban. On the outbreak of the Anglo-Boer War he served with the Colonial Scouts spending most of the war in and around Estcourt in Natal. He went to study in London in 1901 and returned to South Africa in 1903. He worked for a short time with his father as a partner in the business until his father's death in 1903. Robarts was in independent practice in Durban from 1903 to 1913 during which time he entered into partnership with WE GALLIERS (cf ROBARTS & GALLIERS). He was President of the NIA in 1913. The partnership could not have lasted long since in 1913 he purchased the 500-acre farm of one Mrs Legge in Zululand and turned successfully to farming. During the First World War he enlisted as a private in the 6th South African Infantry in German East Africa and received a commission in 1917. He married in 1919. In 1924 he was elected president of the Umhlatuzi Planters' Association, was a delegate of the South African Cane Growers' Association and was closely linked with farming in the Empangeni district. He married Molly, daughter of R King of Port Elizabeth. So far no death certificate has been found for him in Natal.
