Joined the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT, Pretoria in 1929, being promoted to the position of architectural assistant grade I in 1933. In 1939 he was appointed the architectural advisor to the Commissioner of Police of South Africa. He enlisted for active service during the Second World War. In 1959 he was working for the Cape Provincial Administration but seems to have left by 1969, although he had not yet retired from the ISAA.
