Worked in Bloemfontein from about 1900 until 1920; he was an Englishman, educated at St Olave's Grammar School, London and articled in London to Charles H Flack of Bedford Row. He settled in Bloemfontein in May 1900, opening a practice there and marrying in 1902. In 1912 he was elected a Licentiate member of the RIBA, his nomination papers stated he had been a principal for not less than ten years, the papers being witnessed by his then assistant, RH SHAW.
