Studio Seven started off in one of the prefabs on the east side of the path to the swimming bath. It was the on Campus office for the private work of members of staff of the WITS School of Architecture - something John FASSLER had had to fight for through the years on the basis of his belief that architects needed to practice in order to teach. Members were J FASSLER, G HERBERT, WD HOWIE, J MORGENSTERN, JM SHUNN and U TOMASELLI. See letterhead With the construction of John Moffat Building the semi basement under the Dorothy Suskin lecture theatre was mostly occupied by Studio Seven. Many students worked either full time in their 4th year or part time during their vacations or as graduates. Mira FASSLER KAMSTRA worked there in her father, John FASSLER's, office in 1966 to 1967 with Glen GALLAGHER who had been his assistant on the Rand Water Board Building. "Tea time was always interesting," she recalls, "as we all joined together in the small lobby for tea and often had great discussions." John FASSLER moved into his own office on the 7th floor of Everite House after he took early retirement in 1969 to enable him to design Senate House. Studio Seven continued for many years - we are not sure when it came to an end.
