| | BAKER, MASEY and KENDALLEstablished: 1906?
Architect |
The partnership between H BAKER, FE MASEY and FK KENDALL in Cape Town. No formal partnership agreement seems to survive for the commencement of the partnership. It is elsewhere recorded (cf. FK KENDALL in correspondence with GE PEARSE see FASSLER Papers) that Masey joined Baker in 1896/7 and that Kendall joined them as a chief assistant in 1899, aged about nineteen, and became a partner in 1906 at the age of about twenty-five. The work executed by the partnership seems to have been carried out under the name of BAKER & MASEY as currently no work by Baker, Kendall & Masey is known. A deed of dissolution of Baker, Masey & Kendall does survive (Kendall & Earle Gift) dated 6 May 1910. In the partnership, which thus formally lasted about four years, Masey and Kendall were in charge of office work in Cape Town, Bloemfontein and the Eastern Province. Baker, based in Johannesburg, carried out work first as Baker & Masey, then as BAKER, MASEY & SLOPER - Kendall does not appear to have had a share in this partnership. It is interesting to note (Baker Letter Books) that the Union Buildings job was not considered part of the partnership work according to Baker who deemed it his alone.
