The City of Benoni Stand was constructed inside one of the pavillions at the Empire Exhibition held at Milner Park in Johannesburg in 1936 / 37. The adjacent stand - in the background - was for the City of Springs. The photograph of the City of Benoni stand forms an illustration on page 20 of a commemorative and advertising brochure published by Piggott Brothers Limited, an English company tasked with the construction of the majority of the temporary exhibition buildings on the Exhibition site. The brochure is titled 'THE EMPIRE EXHIBITION JOHANNESBURG 1936 -7' and was issued with the compliments of the Official Contractors, Piggott Bros. & Co. Ltd.
