The Town Hall was declared a National Monument in 1983 and is now a Provincial Heritage Site.

Description from Government Gazette 9007 of 23 Dec 1983: “This impressive red brick building, which was designed by the architects Price and Agutter, was erected by the builders Kelly and Anderson of Johannesburg. The cornerstone of the building was laid by Sir Hamilton Goold-Adams on 2 August 1907. The Town Hall was officially inaugurated on 7 September 1908.”
