Anderson Rodger Martin was born in Bridge of Allan, Scotland, on 28 December 1907. He studied architecture at the University of the Witwatersrand from which he graduated with a Diploma in Architecture in August 1933. As a student he worked in W REID's office in Johannesburg between 1930 and 1931, joining Reid's office on graduating and made a partner. KEF GARDINER also joined the office and Reid requested that after his death (1933) the practice should be continued as Reid, Gardiner & Martin (cf. REID, GARDINER & MARTIN). The partnership was formed but was dissolved at the end of 1933; Martin continued to practise as REID & MARTIN in Johannesburg. In 1959 he was listed as a partner in REID, MARTIN, MURRAY & TELFORD, at 9th Floor Annan House, Commissioner Street, (Box 746), Johannesburg. He resigned as a member of the Institute of South African Architects in February 1974. He died in Johannesburg on 10 May 1993.
