Was probably born in South Africa. On 20 April 1920 he began as a junior in the office of KENDALL & MORRIS, Cape Town, where he remained for some years; he was chief assistant from 1928; he studied privately and spent four years as a part-time student at the School of Architecture, University of Cape Town. Roxburgh appears to have remained with Kendall until April 1935. In November 1934 he passed the special RIBA final held in Cape Town under the School of Architecture, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, and was employed in other offices, gaining experience with JONES & McWILLIAMS, BGL MANSERGH and PERRY & LIGHTFOOT, the latter his employers when he registered with the Institute of South African Architects in 1935. He toured the country on business and to study the historic architecture of the Cape about this time.
