Was born in Stanger, Natal. He was articled to WE ROBARTS in whose office he remained for thirteen years. In 1900 he set up independent practice in Durban in 1900. During the Anglo-Boer War he served in the Durban Light Infantry. Buildings ascribed to him fall within his years of various partnership. In 1906 he entered into partnership with E OSBOURN in Durban (see BUCKLE & OSBOURN). It is uncertain how long this partnership lasted. He entered into partnership with L MASON (cf BUCKLE & MASON) in about 1914. His will, drawn up in 1922, was witnessed by L Mason and P Renaud.
