Was born in Glasgow, Scotland, the son of Michael H Fleming, calico printer's salesman, and his wife Isabella, who was English. He was described as an architect in the 1891 census, the second of seven children living in the parental home at 5 Kersland Street. Migration records indicate that a Mr G Fleming sailed to the Cape on 8 October 1892 (DSA). He was employed by WH STUCKE in Bloemfontein as an assistant before opening his own practice in 1895. He was listed as practising in Johannesburg in 1896 and became (n.d.) Town Engineer, Johannesburg. He was in practice in Pretoria with J ELLIS (cf FLEMING & ELLIS) in 1899. In 1898-99 he was listed working in Lovedale, perhaps in connection with buildings at the mission. His last recorded building was in 1914. He died in Johannesburg.
