FRIDJHON, Clement Raymond (Clem)

Architect

Was born in Dublin, Eire, and came to South Africa as a child where he was educated at the Grey Institute, Port Elizabeth and at the South African College School in Cape Town. He studied Architecture at the University of Cape Town from which he graduated in 1930; he married in the same year. He registered with the Institute of South African Architects in the Cape but left almost immediately for Durban in 1931 to work for KALLENBACH, KENNEDY & FURNER. According to his obituary in Architect & Builder (Dec 1974:32), he was a partner in Kallenbach, Kennedy & Furner from 1931 until 1940, managing their Durban branch. He registered with the Natal Provincial Institute of Architects in 1932 and was President in 1968-69. When the Durban office of Kallenbach, Kennedy & Furner was dissolved in February 1940, Fridjhon set up practice in Durban on his own account until 1951 when the partnership with RG FULFORD, CLEMENT R FRIDJHON & FULFORD was formed, in 1959 and again in 1969 of address 507 United Building, Smith Street, Durban Natal.

Clement Fridjhon and his wife Althea Rebecca Fridjhon (1908 – 198?) are buried in the Stellawood Jewish cemetery in Durban.
