Studied engineering at the Natal Technical College from 1918 to 1921, passing the Day School examination with distinction. Lambert then entered the office of AAR McKINLAY, during which time he attended part-time courses, undertook a correspondence course and studied privately; he registered as a probationer of the RIBA in 1926, going on leave of absence from McKinlay's office in 1926, returning to this office as a chief assistant later the same year. He left in 1928 to join CHICK & BARTHOLOMEW as chief assistant and remained with Chick & Bartholomew until 1930 when he left to make a seven-month overseas trip during which he visited Britain, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain and France. He returned to Durban late in 1930 and was employed by the DURBAN CORPORATION ARCHITECTURE DEPARTMENT as assistant architect. In 1935 he sat the RIBA special examination at the University of the Witwatersrand. By 1966 he was Chief Architect of the DURBAN CORPORATION ARCHITECTURE DEPARTMENT.
